Mortal Kombat versus DC Universe

Midway will be releasing the much anticipated fighting game, pitting characters from Mortal Kombat against old DC Comic favourites. Although the entire cast has still to be announced, it is expected that a number of DC regulars will be making the list such as Batman, Superman, Flash, Captain Marvel, Catwoman, Joker and Green Lantern. So far the Mortal Kombat team will be represented by Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya and Shang Tsung. The character selection screen shows enough slots for 18 characters (although Midway may increase this too), so more character announcements are sure to come as the release date approaches.

The graphics are well done showing clear differences between all the characters. The DC heroes will be able to utilise all of their powers, but it is also expected that Midway is designing fight styles that will be unique to each combatant.

The controls will be easy to use and intuitive rather than require you to put together a combination of button pushes to tap into the fight styles. Fatalities will be included in the game too, but weirdly the DC heroes will not be able to complete these moves, instead making use of specialised finishing moves that have yet to be explained.

A nice addition to the game play is watching the wear and tear that comes with taking a good beating. Punches, kicks, and super hits will take their toll on both character and clothing. Much of this can be enjoyed on close-ups when the zoom feature is activated. However, button mashing will be the deciding factor in which fighter will be left standing.
